Welder & On‑Site Engineer
Workshop based in Nottingham, with regular site work across the East Midlands
Due to continued growth and a strong order pipeline, we are looking to recruit a Welder & On‑Site Engineer to join our well established clients skilled and supportive team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, combining workshop fabrication with hands‑on site installation, mechanical repair, and practical engineering work.
You will work both independently and as part of a close‑knit team, contributing to the manufacture, installation, and maintenance of steel structures and mechanical components.
Working Hours & Pay
- Minimum 42.5 hours per week
- Regular overtime available
- Pay rate up to £17 per hour, dependent on experience and skill level
- Monday to Friday role (exact start/finish times discussed at interview)
Key Responsibilities
Workshop-Based Duties
- MIG welding of mild steel components to drawings and job specifications
- General steel fabrication using workshop equipment (cutting, drilling, grinding, preparation)
- Assembly of fabricated items including handrails, platforms, safety barriers, frames, and brackets
- Carrying out quality checks to ensure fabricated items meet company and customer standards
- Supporting general workshop operations, including material handling and job preparation
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Assisting with continuous improvement of fabrication processes and efficiency
On-Site Engineering & Installation Duties
- Installation of fabricated steel items at customer sites
- Carrying out basic on‑site welding repairs where required, including remedial works
- On‑site fabrication and fitting to resolve installation challenges
- Working on Anaerobic Digestion plants, including replacing simple pumps and carrying out basic mechanical tasks
- Attending container hire customer sites for minor structural repairs and welding work
- Diagnosing and resolving straightforward mechanical issues under supervision or instruction
- Working safely on industrial and agricultural sites in line with RAMS and site procedures
- Communicating professionally with clients while representing the company on site
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Previous on‑site fitting or engineering experience
- Some MIG welding experience (workshop or site based)
- Familiarity with steel fabrication tools and equipment
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines and follow instructions
- Full UK driving licence
- Own transport and ability to travel within reasonable distance of Nottingham
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience working on industrial plant, agricultural sites, or AD plants
- Basic mechanical repair or maintenance experience
- Ability to read and work from fabrication or installation drawings
- Site welding experience
- CSCS card or willingness to obtain
- Working knowledge of health & safety practices on construction or industrial sites
